Beginning with first release, dotCart is accepting only PHP 5.2 features into its codebase. PHP 5.2 offers many new object-oriented features that will allow us to make dotCart's code much cleaner and avoid code duplication. Unfortunately, many web hosts do not yet support PHP 5, even though it has already been out and in use for three years. Therefore, along with many other open source projects, dotCart has joined the Go PHP 5 initiative, which is designed to increase PHP 5 penetration.
